Greg Minnaar's signature Assegai is the benchmark for front-wheel grip, holding predictably across the whole tread at any lean angle. This 29 x 2.50 version combines 3C MaxxGrip rubber with the New DH casing on a tubeless-ready foldable bead.

About the Assegai

Maxxis designs the Assegai as a front tyre for all trail, enduro and downhill conditions. Many riders run a pair for a surefooted feel, or match it with a faster-rolling rear such as the Dissector or Minion DHR II. Maxxis optimises its 2.50-inch sizes for 30–35 mm internal rims.

3C MaxxGrip rubber and New DH casing

3C MaxxGrip is Maxxis's stickiest, slowest-rebounding mountain bike rubber, as used by its World Cup downhill and enduro racers, and it's at its best in soft, wet conditions. The New DH casing is dual-ply 120 TPI with progressive stiffness. Maxxis says it runs 2–3 psi lower than the old DH casing for more grip and damping, with better puncture protection at a similar weight.

Compatibility & fit

Fits 29-inch rims (ETRTO 63-622). Maxxis optimises 2.50-inch Assegai sizes for 30–35 mm internal rims. Maximum pressure is 50 psi. Check frame and fork clearance for a 2.50-inch tyre. Fitting isn't included; our workshop can mount it and set it up tubeless.
