The Aspen ST Team Spec is the 'Fastpen' at its lightest: an ultra-low-profile short-track tread on a 170 TPI casing, finished with a unique Team Spec sidewall print. This 29 x 2.40 version uses MaxxSpeed rubber, EXO sidewall protection and a foldable, tubeless-ready bead.

About the Aspen ST

The Aspen ST was designed mainly for short-track XC, and its minimal tread gives racers an edge in dry, grassy conditions. The trade-off is less bite, so it isn't the pick for technical tracks or mixed weather. Maxxis offers it with a 120 TPI race casing or, as here, the ultra-lightweight 170 TPI Team Spec casing.

MaxxSpeed rubber and EXO casing

MaxxSpeed (2023) is Maxxis's top XC race compound. Its high-silica formula improves wet traction and, in Maxxis lab tests, cut rolling resistance by about 25% against 3C MaxxSpeed. EXO adds a light, flexible, cut- and abrasion-resistant fabric to the sidewalls. The 170 TPI Team Spec casing is Maxxis's ultra-light XC build.

Compatibility & fit

Fits 29-inch rims (ETRTO 61-622). Maxxis optimises 2.40-inch Aspen ST sizes for 30 mm internal rims. Maximum pressure is 50 psi. Check frame and fork clearance for a 2.40-inch tyre. Fitting isn't included; our workshop can mount it and set it up tubeless.
