Végétalex is Effetto Mariposa's plant-based sealant: biodegradable, totally plastic-free and long-lasting, with strong puncture protection for tubeless, tubular and inner-tube set-ups.

How it works

Instead of a liquid latex that solidifies, Végétalex uses a mix of natural particles and fibres held together by xanthan gum. The fibres plug the hole and stop pressure loss quickly; the xanthan gum then seals it permanently, which can take days, so a little liquid may weep from the hole without any loss of pressure. Winner of a Design and Innovation Award in 2021.

Low maintenance

Effetto quotes at least 3 months in worst-case conditions and more than 6 months in most tyres, and a full season in sturdier e-bike tyres. To extend its life, add water equal to half the original sealant volume after a few months. For multi-day rides on rocky, thorny ground, add an extra 30ml.

Compatibility & fit

Use with tubeless or tubeless-ready tyres, tubulars, and latex, butyl or TPU inner tubes. Effetto recommends about 20% more than its Caffélatex quantities. Shake the bottle well before use. Water in any sealant can oxidise bare aluminium where the rim isn't covered by tubeless tape or strip. May contain traces of nut. Usage range is -20 to +50°C. Bottles include a flexible tube for injecting through the valve. Fitting and set-up are a separate Tune Cycles workshop service and are not included.
