Why aluminium

SRAM specifies aluminium ferrules over plastic because plastic end caps flex under cable tension, which softens shifting feel and can throw out indexing. The solid alloy body seats firmly into the shifter, frame stops and derailleur, holding the housing square so cable travel translates directly into accurate gear changes.

Open vs sealed

This is the open style ferrule, intended for exposed sections of cable housing. Unlike sealed end caps, open ferrules have no rubber O-ring, so they suit conventional routing where a clean, low-profile finish is preferred.

Compatibility
