The Protocol RCR treats 29 to 38mm road tyres as race tyres, not touring rubber. SILCA used the extra air volume to absorb impacts and reduce flat risk, which let them strip out heavy, redundant puncture layers and keep the tyre light, fast and supple.

Bigger doesn't have to be slower

SILCA started with the 38mm, giving it the largest volume possible within racing regulations. In SILCA's lab testing the 38mm RCR rolled at 31.7 watts against 40.5 watts for a 38mm Vittoria Corsa Pro Control, saving nearly nine watts, and it's 70g lighter per tyre. The 29mm is the sleekest option for modern 25mm internal-width rims while complying with ETRTO standards.

CarbonBead BeadLock

Standard Kevlar beads can stretch and creep over time, increasing blow-off risk. The RCR's rigid carbon fibre bead doesn't stretch, keeping the tyre dimensionally stable from criteriums to the cobbles.

Protocol tyre technology

The Pulsar compound is SILCA's rubber and silica race compound, built to keep rolling efficiency, grip and durability in balance. The Race Casing is developed around modern tyre pressures, so the tyre keeps its shape and ride quality at the pressures wide rims actually run.

Compatibility & fit

700c (622mm bead seat) tubeless-ready road tyre. Widths are measured by SILCA on a 25mm rim after 24 hours; check frame and fork clearance, especially for the 34mm and 38mm. Tubeless set-up is a separate Tune Cycles workshop service and is not included.
