Option 1: hot-melt waxing

For a new factory chain going into SILCA Secret Chain Blend hot melt: immerse the chain and agitate for 30 seconds, let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes, then agitate again for 30 seconds. Rinse with water and drop the chain straight into the hot wax; the water boils off within a few minutes. SILCA says chains prepped this way get up to 30% longer application life than chains cleaned by traditional methods.

Option 2: drip wax on the bike

For a new or nearly new chain getting SILCA Super Secret drip wax: apply one drop to each roller while backpedalling and let it soak for 5 minutes. Backpedal 10 crank revolutions, re-apply one drop per roller and wait another 5 minutes, then rinse with clean water while backpedalling at least 10 revolutions.
