Carbon Construction

The WH-M9220 rim is built from carbon fibre with a hookless bead profile. The shallow 19.7mm rim height keeps rotational weight low, while the wide 30mm internal channel (38mm external) provides a stable platform for modern wide-section mountain bike tyres. The asymmetric rim bed design shifts the valve hole off-centre, equalising drive-side and non-drive-side spoke tension for a stronger, more durable wheel build.

XTR Hub Performance

Shimano's XTR hub features stainless steel cartridge bearings with a labyrinth and contact seal system — delivering low rolling resistance while keeping contaminants out in wet and muddy conditions. Adjustable bearing preload lets you dial in feel and extend service intervals. The Micro Spline freehub uses a 3.5° engagement ratchet mechanism, giving you 103 points of engagement for crisp, responsive acceleration out of corners and on technical climbs.

Compatibility & Fit

Rear axle standard: 12x148mm Boost E-THRU. Freehub: Shimano Micro Spline (compatible with 12-speed XTR and compatible cassettes). Brake mount: Centre Lock (rotor sold separately). Spoke count: 28H. Tyre compatibility: hookless rim requires tubeless tyres; recommended tyre width 2.3–2.6". Not compatible with Shimano HG 8/9/10/11-speed freehubs or standard Hyperglide+ without Micro Spline body.

Shimano XTR components are covered by a 3-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of original purchase. Normal wear items (bearings, dust seals, freehub pawls, spokes, braking surfaces, tubeless tape) are excluded from warranty coverage. For warranty support, return the item to Tune Cycles.
