Hollowtech II construction

The right crank arm and spindle are forged and bonded into a single hollow unit, creating a structure that is both light and extremely rigid. The left arm clicks onto the spindle via Shimano's self-extracting fixing bolt system for straightforward installation. Outboard bearings — housed in the bottom bracket cups rather than the frame shell — are set as far apart as possible, maximising the lateral stiffness of the whole drivetrain.

Smooth, reliable front shifting

Shimano's chainring tooth shaping and ramp profiles are designed to work in close co-ordination with Tiagra front derailleurs and shift levers. The result is consistent chain pick-up and drop under load, ride after ride, with minimal adjustment required over the life of the chainrings.
