Motor Performance
The EP8 drive unit uses a brushless mid-drive motor rated at 250W continuous and 36V DC, with peak output reaching 500W for demanding climbs and technical terrain. The updated Trail mode provides improved responsiveness above 25km/h for a fluid, intuitive ride, while Eco mode caps assist at 30Nm to maximise battery range. The magnesium alloy casing keeps weight low and improves heat management for sustained performance.
Connectivity & Integration
The DU-EP800 features two SD300 E-Tube ports, a dedicated speed sensor port (fin connector), and a satellite shifter port, enabling full Di2 integration including automatic shifting when paired with a Di2 internal geared hub. Ride tuning is available via the Shimano E-TUBE PROJECT app, allowing riders and dealers to customise assist curves and mode settings to suit any riding style.
Compatibility & Fit
Compatible with Shimano STEPS EP8-series cranks in 160mm, 165mm, 170mm, and 175mm lengths (Q-factor 177mm). Works with mechanical shifting systems from 9 to 12 speed and Di2 11-speed. Supports Shimano NEXUS inter-gear hub systems. Compatible batteries include the BT-E8016 630Wh downtube, BT-E8036 630Wh internal, and BT-E8035-L 504Wh internal options. Uses the same frame mount pattern as the DU-E8000 and DU-7000, making it a straightforward upgrade for compatible frames.
