ICE TECHNOLOGIES FREEZA

Shimano's ICE TECHNOLOGIES FREEZA brake pads feature a three-layer metal composite core bonded between aluminium fin layers. The fins dramatically increase surface area, drawing heat away from the pad and rotor interface. The result is stable, fade-resistant braking even under sustained load — critical for technical race descents or loaded touring.

One-Way Bleeding

The BR-R9170 uses Shimano's refined one-way bleed port design. Mineral oil flows in one direction through the system, with geometry engineered to prevent air pockets forming. Combined with Shimano's bleed funnel tool, even first-time bleeders can achieve a firm, consistent lever stroke with minimal mess.

Compatibility & Fit

Flat mount caliper — fits flat mount fork/frame mounts only (not post mount). Compatible with 140mm and 160mm rotors; a flat mount adaptor bracket for 160mm is included. Pairs with Shimano Dura-Ace ST-R9170 or ST-R9120 hydraulic levers. Uses Shimano mineral oil (not DOT fluid). Compatible brake pads: L02A (resin/fins — included), L04C (metallic).
