Sold Out
The Shimano Deore XT WH-M8200 rear wheel brings XTR-derived technology to trail riding at a price that makes real sense. Built around a wide 30mm internal hookless alloy rim and redesigned XT hubs with 3.5-degree engagement, this 29-inch wheel delivers snappy acceleration on climbs, confident cornering at speed, and the tubeless-ready platform modern tyres demand.
Highlights
- 30mm internal hookless alloy rim: Tubeless-ready profile optimised for modern high-volume MTB tyres — no separate rim strip required.
- 3.5-degree cartridge hub engagement: Redesigned DEORE XT hub bites almost immediately for instant, responsive power transfer on technical terrain.
- Sealed cartridge bearings: Combined labyrinth and contact seals minimise rolling resistance while keeping contaminants out — easy to service.
- Micro Spline freehub: Compatible with 12-speed Shimano MTB cassettes including CS-M8100 and CS-M9100.
- Centre Lock disc interface: Fast, precise rotor installation with rigid alignment and easy wheel removal.
- Boost 148x12mm E-THRU axle: Maximises tyre clearance and frame stiffness for confident handling on demanding trails.
- 28 J-bend stainless steel spokes: Strong, field-replaceable, and widely available — 2.0/1.8mm butted construction.
- Lightweight at 1052g: Trail-capable weight without sacrificing durability.
Hub & Engagement
Shimano completely reworked the XT hub for the M8200 generation, adopting sealed cartridge bearings — a departure from the brand's long-standing cup-and-cone design. The cartridge units feature combined labyrinth and contact seals that keep contaminants out while minimising rolling resistance. The 3.5-degree engagement angle means the drivetrain bites almost immediately, a noticeable advantage on steep, technical climbs and slow-speed manoeuvres where every pedal stroke counts.
Rim & Tubeless Setup
The 30mm internal width hookless alloy rim (external width 34.7mm, rim height 19.8mm) sits in the sweet spot for 2.3–2.6in trail tyres. The hookless tubeless profile provides a secure, airtight tyre bead seat without the need for a separate rim strip, saving weight and setup time. Always verify maximum tyre pressure with the tyre manufacturer's hookless compatibility specifications.
