Caliper & Lever Technology
The BR-M8220 features a forged two-piece caliper body housing dual-diameter pistons — the larger pistons generate initial bite while the smaller pistons fine-tune modulation through the braking arc. High-performance resin pistons resist cracking and maintain consistent feel under heat. The BL-M8200 lever introduces a closer pivot point that tracks the natural arc of the finger, reducing fatigue on long descents. A reinforced master cylinder with secondary brace point improves feel and durability.
Servo Wave & Low Viscosity Oil
Shimano's Servo Wave mechanism uses a variable-rate cam to rapidly close the pad-to-rotor gap on initial lever movement, then transitions to a slower, more controlled pad engagement for progressive braking power. Combined with Shimano's new low-viscosity mineral oil, the system maintains a stable bite point in cold, wet, or hot conditions — critical for confidence on technical trails and steep enduro stages.
Compatibility & Fit
The BR-M8220 caliper is post-mount and compatible with standard flat-mount and IS adapters (sold separately). Designed for use with Shimano Ice-Tech Centre Lock or 6-bolt rotors in 160 mm, 180 mm, or 203 mm diameters. Levers are I-SPEC EV compatible for integrating with Shimano M8100-series shifters. Requires Shimano low-viscosity mineral oil — do not mix with standard mineral oil or DOT fluid. Included hose lengths suit most full-suspension and hardtail MTB frames.
Shimano Deore XT components are covered by a 2-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of original purchase. This warranty applies to the original owner and is non-transferable. Proof of purchase is required for all warranty claims.
