Shimano CUES RD-U4020 rear derailleur, 9-speed

The RD-U4020 is the 2x9 rear derailleur in Shimano's CUES range, built for trails, gravel and city riding alike. It is e-bike rated, so it is designed to cope with the extra chain tension a mid-drive motor puts through the drivetrain, and its low-profile shape keeps it tucked away from rocks and kerbs.

Highlights

• 9-speed CUES rear derailleur for 2x drivetrains
• Low-profile design protects the derailleur from trail obstacles
• Maximum low sprocket: 36T
• Total capacity: 41T
• E-bike rated by Shimano
• Long cage

Where the low profile helps

Sitting closer to the frame, the derailleur body is less exposed to strikes from rocks, kerbs and bike racks. On a commuter or a bike that gets parked in tight spaces, that is the difference between a bent hanger and an uneventful ride home.

Compatibility and fit

Shimano CUES 9-speed, 2x drivetrains. The largest sprocket it will handle is 36T and the total capacity is 41T, so check your chainring difference plus your cassette range against that before ordering. If you need a 1x9 setup or a cassette larger than 36T, the RD-U4000 is the derailleur to look at instead. Ask us if you are not sure which one your bike needs.
