Why you'll want one

Chainring bolts use a captive slotted nut on the inboard side. Without something to hold that nut, it spins with the bolt and you get nowhere. This wrench seats into the slot and keeps the nut locked while you do up or back off the bolt from the other side, turning an awkward two-handed job into a quick one.
