DT Swiss EX511 DT 240 EXP hand-built wheelset

A DT Swiss EX511 rim set laced 28-spoke front and rear to DT 240 EXP hubs, built by hand in our Marrickville workshop, tensioned, stress-relieved and trued before it leaves the bench. Our Pro wheel build and tubeless tape fitted are included and show as two free lines in your cart.

Before you order — what your bike decides

  • Wheel size — 29", 27.5" or mullet; mullet means 29" front and 27.5" rear. Read it off your tyre sidewall.
  • Rear axle — Boost 12 × 148 or Super Boost 12 × 157. Boost 12 × 148 is most modern MTBs, Super Boost 12 × 157 some Pivot and Knolly frames, 12 × 142 older frames: measure the inside of the dropouts.
  • Front axle — Boost 15 × 110, 12 × 100 or 15 × 100. Boost 15 × 110 on most modern forks, 20 × 110 on DH forks, 15 × 100 on older forks: check the fork lowers.
  • Rotor mount — Centre Lock or 6-bolt: look at your rotors (six bolts, or a splined centre with a lockring).
  • Cassette — the freehub body follows it: Shimano 12-speed MTB is Micro Spline, SRAM Eagle is XD, Shimano 11-speed and older (and CUES LG) is HG. Offered here: Shimano HG, Shimano Micro Spline or SRAM XD.

Choose the same rotor mount front and rear unless your rotors differ.

Who it is for

For enduro and aggressive trail riding — an ASTM 4 enduro rim. For downhill and bike-park days see the FR541 kits; on an e-bike the 350 Hybrid or Hope Pro 5e versions.

The rider's questions

  • How much can it carry? Max system weight (rider, bike and gear) 130 kg — the DT Swiss EX511 rating, the lowest-rated part of the build.
  • What tyres fit? 2.1–2.7" tyres are DT's recommended range for a 30 mm inner width; 1.85"–2.0" and 2.8" are possible. The tyre's own maximum pressure applies; the rim sets none.
  • E-bike? DT approves the DT 240 EXP for e-bikes to 100 Nm of motor torque; above 55 Nm DT recommends the 350 Hybrid and above 100 Nm requires it — see our Hybrid and Pro 5e kits for a full-power motor.
  • How fast does the hub engage? 36 points of engagement — Ratchet EXP 36, 10° between clicks. The EXP 54 ratchet kit is a drop-in upgrade (sold separately).
  • Warranty? DT Swiss parts 24 months from purchase; our build work is guaranteed. Any claim comes back to Tune Cycles — see the Warranty tab.
  • How long does it take? Built to order from supplier stock — we confirm the build date by email when you order.

Sold separately (shown with this kit): a cassette for your freehub body, tyres to suit (sizes above). Rotors: one per wheel, to match your rotor mount and your brake caliper's size range.

How we build it

Every wheel is laced by hand in Marrickville, brought up to tension evenly to the lower of the rim and hub limits (1200 N), stress-relieved and trued, then checked again before it is packed. Tubeless tape (32 mm) is fitted to the rim; add valves and sealant and it is ready for tyres.

Tune Cycles builds and fits these wheels. If you are unsure what your frame, fork or drivetrain takes, ask us before you order.

DT Swiss rims and hubs are covered for 24 months from purchase against material and manufacturing defects (dtswiss.com/en/support/warranty); riding outside the rim's ASTM category voids it. Our build — lacing, tension and truing — carries our workmanship guarantee. Any claim comes back to Tune Cycles: bring the wheel to Marrickville or contact us with your order number and we handle it with the brand. Wear, crash damage, corrosion and incorrect fitting are not covered.
