The CN-HG701-11 sits a step above the HG601 in Shimano's 11-speed range, with SIL-TEC treatment on both the roller link plate and the pin link plate. Built for the loads an e-bike puts through a drivetrain
Shimano revised the chain plate dimensions on the HG701 specifically for e-bike duty, where a mid-drive motor puts far more tension through the chain than legs alone. The same reinforcement pays off on a heavily loaded touring or commuting bike.
Compatibility and fit
Fits Shimano 11-speed HG-X11 drivetrains, road and mountain, including 11-speed e-bike systems. Not compatible with 10-speed or 12-speed drivetrains. The chain is directional, so follow the direction marking on the outer plate when you fit it, and shorten it to length before joining.
Shimano warrants this chain against defects in materials and workmanship. Normal wear is excluded: chain elongation, and wear to the rollers, pins and plates from use, along with damage caused by a worn cassette or chainrings, incorrect chain length, poor lubrication, crash damage or incorrect fitting.
