What S.H.I.S. means

S.H.I.S. (Standardized Headset Identification System) is the industry code that states a headset's fit in one line: the letters give the cup type (ZS zero-stack, EC external cup, IS integrated), the first number is the head tube bore it presses into in mm, and the number after the slash is the steerer or crown race diameter the bearing takes. This headset is IS42/28.6 on top and IS49.5/40.5 on the bottom – the 49.5mm lower bore is specific to Specialized's Crux and Aethos head tube, not the more common 52mm.
