Confident chain control

The specially shaped gear teeth (Dynamic Chain Engagement+) grip the chain more securely, so power transfer stays smooth and the chain is less likely to skip or drop when the going gets bumpy. The integrated chain guard adds a further layer of retention and keeps your clothing away from the ring.

Compatibility & fit

This is the 170 mm, 40T version with chain guard. It runs a single chainring for 1x7 or 1x8 drivetrains and uses a square-taper (square drive) interface, paired with a separately sold square-taper bottom bracket such as Shimano BB-UN26/UN100/UN300 (LL123 / 123 mm recommended) to suit 68/73 mm shells. The 40T ring gives a 50 mm chainline. Use with an 8/7/6-speed HG chain (e.g. CN-HG71 / CN-HG40). Bottom bracket and chain are not included.

Shimano components are covered by a manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the warranty period applicable in Australia. The warranty does not cover normal wear (including chainring tooth wear), damage from crashes, improper installation, neglect or use outside the product's intended purpose.
